Day 3

Serengeti National Park – the Serengeti National Park is a spectacular piece of nature. Meaning “endless plains” …in Maasai, this massive area covering some 15,000 km² was created from intense volcanic activity millions of years ago. Now it is home to a stunning array of wild animals, including one million migrating wildebeest that annually inhabit the area. Early morning start for a full day of game drives with our expert guide to search for the big “5”, a term used by the early African big game hunters to describe the most dangerous animals to hunt. Depending on the time of year we can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, hippos, antelopes and many bird species such as the ostrich and the world’s largest flying bird, the Kori Bustard. With some luck, we will spot the elusive big cats, the leopard and the cheetah.

Ngorongoro Crater – up early, and off for another game drive in animal paradise. After lunch at our tented camp …, we eventually make our way out of the Serengeti and towards Olduvai Gorge. With an area of over 260 km², and walls 600m high, the caldera is an impressive reminder of the areas turbulent past. The Ngorongoro Crater known for its natural beauty of forests, fresh water lakes, swamps and a massive soda lake that supports thousands of pink flamingos can sustain animals all year around, so it is little surprise that it has a very high animal concentration! Early morning we descend the crater walls in our 4WD and observe the abundance of animals that call the crater home. Here we will have the chance to see the black rhinoceros, no longer found in the Serengeti. After lunch we head back to Arusha.
